Designer Isopods for Sale

Designer isopods are chosen for the details that make a colony especially enjoyable to keep: unusual color, distinctive pattern, rarity, personality and collector appeal. At Rubber Ducky Isopods, we use “designer isopods” intentionally. When we started the business in 2020, many lines that are now more familiar in the hobby were still considered rare or exotic. The category continues to evolve as new colors, patterns and isopods are discovered.

This collection brings together Rubber Ducky varieties, Panda Kings, Pak Chong, colorful Cubaris lines and other standout isopods for display colonies, breeding projects and thoughtfully designed bioactive habitats.

Choose by appearance, purpose and care needs

There is no single care recipe for every designer isopod. This collection includes multiple genera, and each variety may have different preferences.

Many Cubaris enjoy higher humidity, deeper substrate and plenty of hides. They may take longer to settle in and begin breeding, so patience is part of keeping them successfully.

Armadillidium generally appreciate lower-to-moderate humidity, good airflow and a moisture gradient rather than an enclosure that stays uniformly wet.

Porcellio and other varieties can have their own activity, humidity and feeding preferences. Some designer isopods are primarily appreciated as visual display animals, while others can also contribute to a bioactive clean-up crew.

Read the individual product page before ordering. That is where you will find the most accurate information for the specific variety, including habitat conditions, expected behavior and feeding needs.

Why established cultures matter

Some of our cultures include well-established sub-adults or adults. When available, this gives keepers a meaningful head start by reducing the months of waiting for a young colony to reach breeding age and size.

Established animals still need stable conditions, appropriate food and time to settle into a new enclosure. The right setup makes the difference between simply owning beautiful isopods and building a colony you can enjoy for years.

Build the right foundation

Designer isopods thrive when their habitat is built around their actual needs. A suitable living substrate, quality leaf litter, natural hides and appropriate moisture provide the foundation. Additional food and calcium can help support growing and breeding colonies, especially in display enclosures where natural food sources are limited.

Our approach is grounded in more than 17 years of hands-on experience with living soil, bioactive habitats and the animals that depend on them. We select products and provide guidance with the goal of helping you build a healthy, attractive enclosure that works in real life.
