One of the biggest complaints when building a brand new Bioactive Living Soil Isopod substrate is the fact that fungus gnats are almost guaranteed to appear.

Even seasoned Isopod breeders are sure to come across these at some point or another - they are almost inevitable. 

Suppose you choose NOT to be proactive in your Integrated Pest Management (IPM) protocols; the perfect temperature and humidity levels for Isopods are also the ideal breeding ground for the "Nuisance" pests. 

Our good friend Mark, founder of MI Beneficials, created a unique, hand-made product in Michigan that provides effective pest control solutions against fungus gnats, soil stages of thrips, and root aphids.

The (Dalotia coriaria) Rove Beetle and Hypoapsis mile are a tag team on thrips, fungus gnats, root aphids, and even some pest soil mites.

While the rove beetle is 1-3mm in size, visible and black, the Hypoapsis miles are less than 1mm in size and color from white to brown. 

The rove beetle can take a little longer to establish and make a dent in your fungus gnat issues, but the Hypoapsis mile immediately starts eating fungus gnat larvae, which is why they are great when applied together!

This particular springtail species provides a unique experience for Isopod breeders as they work in symbiotic relationships with other Isopod species! 

Do YOU want to see the effectiveness of White Springtails for yourself when breaking down reptile fecal matter, reptile shedding, or simply essential housekeeping of breaking down waste and organic matter?  

Use Dwarf White, Dwarf Purple, or Florida Fast Isopods to break down organic matter into Carbon. Indigenous microorganisms (IMO) have survived and thrived in their natural environment and contributed to the soil's harmony. Microbes are all around us, in the air, soil, water, and even inside us.

Every region has its own, IMO, microbes that have thrived in those regions for generations. We set out to collect these microbes in the perfect balance that nature provides us with.

These microbes are taken from a healthy old-growth forest and used to inoculate and create bioactive systems. 

Fungi and bacteria are all part of what is known as the soil food web, IMO helps us bring a tremendous number of fungal spores and a diversity of bacteria to supercharge the soils we are working with!

We take these microbes in nature's natural balance and preserve them using sugar which has been used as a preservative for centuries. To increase their populations, we then take these microbes and grow them on a substrate of microbial food.

This allows us to distribute these microorganisms to build a balanced bioactive system for living beings to thrive on.

IMO helps decompose organic material and aids as a catalyst for chemical processes in the soil that helps invigorate the soil.

Jonny (Mindfully Rooted) is a gardening and natural farming enthusiast. In 2016, Jonny began growing food and medicine for himself and his family, which sparked his interest in learning about the world underneath our feet.
