One of the biggest complaints when building a brand new Bioactive Living Soil Isopod substrate is the fact that fungus gnats are almost guaranteed to appear. Even seasoned isopod farmers are sure to come across these at some point or another - they are almost inevitable.

Suppose you choose NOT to be proactive in your Integrated Pest Management (IPM) protocols; the perfect temperature and humidity levels for Isopods are also the ideal breeding ground for the "Nuisance" pests.

Our good friend Mark, founder of MI Beneficials, created a unique, hand-made product in Michigan that provides effective pest control solutions against fungus gnatssoil stages of thrips, and root aphids.

Mark has perfected and handcrafted this concentrated, bio-diverse collection of beneficial bioactive living soil organisms. As a bonus, these organisms will help improve bioactive nutrient cycling and overall Isopod health!

These bio-diversity packs are ideally applied when a new Isopod vivarium or terrarium of MicroForest Complete bioactive living soil substrate is built. Building beneficial Bio-Diversity will jump-start your IPM program by attacking known soil-borne pests (fungus gnatsthrips, and root aphids). Rest assured - they will not attack your isopods or their mancae. The secret for building these systems allows us the flexibility on a microcosm scale to begin to allow nutrients to become more readily available to your Soil Food Web ecosystem.

Adding bioactive MicroForest Complete living soil to an established container or bed will dramatically improve your isopod's soil ecosystem conditions within weeks and immediately start combating specified pest issues within 24 hours of inoculation. For severe fungus gnat issues, we highly recommend ordering two bioactive containers and finding a carnivorous plant known as the Tropical Pitcher Plant! (Nepenthes)

Species Contained In Each Bioactive Container:

Dalotia coriaria (Rove Beetle)Hypoaspis miles (Stratiolaelaps scimitus), Oribatida miteOligochaeta annelida (pot worms)Springtails.

Beneficial Benefits Described In Detail

The (Dalotia coriariaRove Beetle and Hypoapsis mile are a tag team on thripsfungus gnatsroot aphids, and even some pest soil mites.

While the rove beetle is 1-3mm in size, visible and black, the Hypoapsis miles are less than 1mm in size and color from white to brown.

The rove beetle can take a little longer to establish and make a dent in your fungus gnat issues, but the Hypoapsis mile immediately starts eating fungus gnat larvae, which is why they are great when applied together!

Quicker Bio-Availability:

Your starter pack comes in our rich worm casting/coco mix and is kept

moist and packed full of beneficial microbial life. In addition, to jump-start hardy beneficial microbes, all species of insects and organisms present in these packs will feed on decomposing material.

Cohabiting with our Isopod collections breaking down more significant organic matter pieces into smaller, more available parts for your composting worms and smaller organisms to expedite the process of becoming bio-available to your plants.

Bioactive Soil Improvement:

Our biodiversity, living soil starter packs, come teeming with robust predatory mites known as Oribatida mites, a very slow-moving, long-living, and essential piece to the Bioactive living soil Isopod ecosystem.

These beneficial and predatory mites come in large numbers and assist in breaking down organic detritus and distributing beneficial fungi. They act much like composting in the soil food web in their ability to decompose organic material and provide quicker nutrients to your plants.

In addition to Oribatida, these packs come with Oligochaeta annelida (beneficial pot worms), which are in the same Order and Phylum of composting worm (red wiggler or earthworm), are white, small worms from 5-10mm long. These worms act like composting worms, creating air channels for plant roots and expediting decomposition.
